Crawling out of the Pages...

Even though it's still just July, I recently received a copy of Country Sampler Magazine's September issue! It's a reminder to all that fall and Halloween are just around the corner. I started flipping through the pages and came across a trio of familiar faces. The Country Treasures section on Page 12 begins with a splash of my Candlestick Spiders! What fun it is to see these whimsical characters featured, and I am grateful that Country Sampler acknowledged me as well. These eight-legged collectibles are practically crawling off the page, and if you would like to adopt a few for your home this Halloween, I would suggest visiting the various vendor sites on my Source Links Page! There are a handful of online stores carrying these curios, and I will also have them available at this year's Halloween Trunk Show. So, go find yourself a copy of this zine in preparation for the harvest season, and many thanks to the folks at Country Sampler for including me once again!

"Double, double, toil and trouble - these adorable accents by artist Johanna Parker can serve either as spider-topped finials or quirky candlesticks. Depending on your decorating mood, outfit the candleholders with grubby black tapers and spread the spiders around your tablescape, or present a united front by keeping the pieces intact."

It's Giveaway Time!...

In honor of ALL of you, I am hosting a Customer / Fan Appreciation Week, and YOU are invited to join in on the fun! I am offering two of my latest Halloween figurine designs that will debut this fall from Bethany Lowe Designs! These fresh and fun sample pieces are signed by me and will be shipped to their lucky winners! My Juggling Black Cat is up for grabs HERE via my BLOG, while my Balancing Jack-o'-lantern is being offered on my Facebook Fan Page.

UPDATE:  We have a WINNER!

So, the secret winning number to snatch my Juggling Black cat is 23! Why 23?  Well, I made my first grinning black cat in 2003 (and was he ever crude!!  :) But, he was the start of many more to come. So,
break down 2003, and you get 20 + 3 which equals 23!  Many of you came so very close to this number, but only one person nailed it!

Congrats to Marie who left the following comment on June 25 at 9:13pm:

Have a Lovely Day!...

I bet some of you faithful fans of Jack were wondering if our 4-legged friend would be making a special appearance on my blog today. Fortunately, the answer is yes! His mood was quite chipper over the weekend, so we deemed it just the right time to make our move. I grabbed a few props, and after he heard the rustle of the red and white paper garland, his ears perked up and he rushed to my feet. I draped it around him in various ways, and he began prancing all about. He LOVES the attention! We noticed that he also LOVES my latest pair of Valentines lovebirds from my Bethany Lowe line. We perched them here and there for Jack to sniff and greet, snapping photos along the way. I know you might be asking where is his latest Valentine's hat and all? Well, me and the 'ol clock have a less-than-loving relationship, so maybe next "time".... For now, enjoy our silly little series of a cat and bird love affair. I hope they give you warm fuzzies too :)

Wishing you a LOVELY-fun Valentine's Day!

xoxo,
~ Johanna, JP & Jack

Toot Toot!...

Finally, my first sample pair of decorative Halloween tin horns arrived! These collectible goodies are part of my 2011 fall collection of reproductions from Bethany Lowe Designs. From the day I first spied a vintage toy horn cloaked in whimsical imagery, I have been intrigued by these novelties. What a pleasure it was to create my own vintage style versions, complete with a black cat and of course an owl companion to match. Proudly standing a tall 13" in height, this spooky-fun coupling will certainly add a festive ring to your home this Halloween season. I believe these party pleasers will be available in early summer, so make sure and ask your favorite vendors to order them now before they are sold out! Enjoy this sneak peek... TOOT TOOT!

Halloween, 2012......

Designing holiday products can be tricky as I must think a year-plus in advance while creating my pieces off season. The latter comes natural since I always have Halloween on the mind! But, I do find my patience running thin as I design and create pieces that will not be available for more than a year. By the time they arrive, it's like a happy reunion where the face is pleasantly familiar, but we do have to get reacquainted a bit. This week, I am finishing up a small batch of Halloween prototypes for Bethany Lowe Designs, 2012. I had fun with these as I decided to blend my illustrations with the sculptures that I love to create. The end result is a series of fun, jack-in-a-box style candy box characters that serve as both decorative as well as functional pieces of art! The first image is a mock-up as I honestly ran out of time to actually build the boxes. Keep scrolling down for more.....

JOL-Box-Character-MockUp

The illustration of a lanky pumpkin man teetering atop a jack-o'-lantern
creates the fun panels for this sweet piece.

Box-Character-Tiles

These sample drawings are a trio of sideshow-style images conveying a whimsical character framed in a staged setting. Four panels of each design will comprise each box, and the corresponding character's bust will crown the box's lid!

Black-Cat-Box-Character

Of course, I had to include one of my black cats in the mix!

JOL-Box-Character

Here's another peek at my jack-o'-lantern character! What a fun face :)

Skelly-Box-Character

And, my first licensed skelly will be making his debut alongside the other two characters. I'm looking forward to reuniting with this fun trio next fall! Now, if only I were more patient.....

I also squeezed in a spooky spider design.... Stay tuned for a peek at him later...

Happy Haunting,

Sights of Spring!....

It was a fun surprise for me to spot a pair of my Spring product designs in the current March issue of Country Sampler Magazine! Under the "Chicks Ahoy" heading on page 11, the magazine recommends grouping them as a set for your dining table's center piece, staggering them on bookshelves for retro pizazz or lining them up on the mantel! Whatever you do, make sure to fill them with treats, or in this case, Easter eggs and flowers will do. Be creative. And thanks goes out to The Holiday Barn for sourcing my vintage-style spring jars on their website!

Gifts of Love...

Looking for a sweet little touch to warm up your home this February? Or perhaps you are searching for a little something to give to your loved one? Take a peek at these vintage style Valentines ornaments that I have designed for this heart-warming season....

VDay-Heart-Bird

My heart bird is certainly a little tweet-heart and promises to bring many smiles. Attach him to the outside of a gift bag or package as a decorative adornment, or hang him around the neck of a bottle of wine to dress up the occasion....

VDay-Love-Cone

My illustrated Love Cone is made from a thick-walled cardboard and adorned with red tinsel trim. It would be lovely to fill it with candy or perhaps hide a special jewel or necklace within for a special gift to your significant other. Hang it in your home and have your lover hunt for the love cone. These cones would also make lovely party favors for your Valentines-themed festivities. Suspend a series of cones, filled with sweets, from a feather tree or other clever stand in your home, and have your guests take them home to remember your special occasion.

You can find my Valentine's collectible products, including the "Love & Cherish" cherub set featured in a previous post, at the following websites:

* Bayberry Cove carries all my Valentine's items....
* Shelley B Home & Holiday ...
* Traditions carries my cherubs....
* All items can be found at this link on eBay.....

Have a lovely Valentine's Day, and thank you for adding a little touch of Johanna Parker Design whimsy to your holiday!
